Villanelle

by Martyna Malolepszy

In the early morning, when all life starts over,

The petals of a flower always thrive;

It is still as perfect as a four-leaf clover.

As the dew starts to dry away, no longer taking over

The beautiful petals of the flower still survive

In the early morning, when all life starts over.

By midday, the morning dew has crossed over,

And is no longer able to be revived;

It is still as perfect as a four-leaf clover.

Lunchtime is when they start to turn over,

Leaving us, wanting to take a dive

In the early morning, when all life starts over.

At night, they survive, but still take cover,

Yet it is not the same in the daylight;

It is still as perfect as a four-leaf clover.

Through all times of the day, beautiful like Dover,

They somehow manage to to stay alive.

In the early morning, when all life starts over,

It is still as perfect as a four-leaf clover.
